Jeremy Benson

Biography: AUTHOR HOMETOWN: North Lake Tahoe, California AUTHOR BIO: Jeremy Benson moved to Lake Tahoe in the fall of 2001, shortly after graduating from Saint Michael’s College in northern Vermont. He decided to take a year off to ski before getting a “real job”. That was 12 years ago, and now he’s as addicted to skiing as ever, and that “real-job” has never materialized. For the past decade he’s explored the mountains of California, an endeavor that has put him on summits from Mount Whitney to Mount Shasta, and most of the mountains in between. Skiing has been the most important thing in his life for a long time, and he doesn’t see that changing anytime soon. As a resident of North Lake Tahoe, he’s extremely familiar with the backcountry immediately around the lake, but also in an ideal location to venture north or south in search of new adventures and lines to ski. For the past eight years, he’s been a sponsored “professional” big mountain/backcountry skier. He’s worked closely with photographers and sponsors to capture beautiful action photography; he’s also traveled extensively throughout North America and all over the world to ski, including British Columbia, Alaska, Chamonix, Switzerland, New Zealand, Chile, and Argentina. His writing career came about by chance. As an articulate professional skier, he was initially approached by friends at ski-related magazines to provide them with fresh content from a unique perspective. Over the past several years, he’s contributed to Powder, Skiing, Mountain, and Tahoe Quarterly magazines, as well as TetonGravity.com, PowderMag.com, ESPN.com, and SkiingMag.com. Certifications: • AIARE Avalanche Level 2 • EMT Basic • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
